The hike starts at the quarry huts and leads us over easy forest terrain to the ceiling high moor - the Löckensee. We continue to the "Grubalmen" and the karst cave "Wildfrauenloch". World Heritage Hike

World Heritage Hike

Two nature reserves in one day.

With the Gosau slow train / alpine cab through the village in the direction of the forest road. Time flies when hiking guide Betty tells you interesting and interesting facts about the village and its inhabitants the so-called "Gosinger". After about 50 minutes the first intermediate destination is reached.

From the Schleifstein quarries, we set off for the Löckenmoos high moor. This unique high moor is not only a nature reserve with extraordinary flora and fauna but also opens up an overwhelming view of the surrounding mountains. The highlight of this hike is at the highest point the unique moor eye, the Löckensee. Back at the Gosauer Bummelzug, the route goes up to the Plankensteinalm at about 1500 meters. This high plateau with its 120 hectares is the largest contiguous alpine pasture area in the region. It offers over 100 head of cattle, calves, young cattle and horses with their foals fodder throughout the summer.

Once at the top, enjoy the view of the Gosaukamm and the Dachstein massif with the Hoher Dachstein. We start to the poacher's seat at the Geißwänden. A vantage point in the middle of the second nature reserve with views of Hallstatt, Lake Hallstatt and Obertraun. Before returning to the valley, we stop at the Leutgebhütte for refreshments.
